One person died and 29 others were injured in the storms that hit Hungary on Wednesday, a spokesman for the disaster management authority, Dániel Mukics was quoted by dailynewshungary as saying. The most harm was caused in Budapest that was hit by the storm in the afternoon.

A person died by suffering an electric shock after he entered a basement flooded in the downpour, Daniel Mukics said. He added that most of the injuries had been caused by falling branches.

Nationwide, authorities were called to help at over 3,500 locations with uprooted trees, broken electric lines, flooded facilities and collapsed or damaged roofs. Several buildings were struck by lightning and went ablaze.

The cold front reaching Hungary on Wednesday afternoon ended a recent heatwave, reducing daily highs of 36-39 degrees Celsius by over 10 degrees just within a few hours. Windforce during the storm peaked between 110-130 km/hour at places.
