The Gyula Flowers Festival is held again this weekend, with sixty exhibitors presenting their special plants and horticulture-related products in the southeastern Hungarian town of Gyula.
The town's chief gardener, Adrienn Várkonyi Szász said that ten percent of the exhibitors com to the event for the first time. Most of them offer annual flowers, but visitors will also be able to choose from perennial plants, nursery products and, as a novelty, a farmers' shop.
As usual, there are also specialists in particular fields: water lilies, insectivorous plants, cacti, possums, Mediterranean plants and their experts.
This year, there are additional activities. An exhibition of the entries to the ‘My flower garden’ drawing competition for children will be on display under the arcades of the cultural center. This year, there is also a flower arranging competition and a bonsai demonstration.
The stage program includes a majorette performance, concerts by the Körös Quintet, the Erkel Ferenc Children's Wind Orchestra from Gyula, folk and modern dance, and two big concerts on Saturday: the Dirty Slippers and Gyula Deák Bill in the evening. The whole day will be accompanied by a craft play house for the little ones.
The festival, which is free of charge, will also have a guest town, this time Sátoraljaújhely, NE Hungary, where visitors will be able to get to know the town's winemakers and wine tasting.
