Initial studies and surveys have found thermal water beneath Procter & Gamble's plant in Csömör, just outside Budapest, and thanks to the company's fortunate geographic location, it has embarked on a long-term planning process in collaboration with the Csömör Municipality to replace its entire natural gas consumption with geothermal energy.
"In the current energy market and climate change situation, we are increasingly moving to renewable energy sources. The thermal water project in Csömör is currently in the study phase, and as soon as the necessary studies are completed, we will start the implementation to switch our plant entirely to geothermal energy, so that we can reach our zero-emission target even earlier. Moreover, such an innovation can secure the future of our plant and the stability of our jobs for a long time to come," according to Communications Manager at P&G, Yvette Krubl.
Press reports note that Hungary ranks first in Europe in terms of thermal and spa water resources. There are currently around 500 thermal water springs, which means that you can find natural water warmer than +30°C on 70% of the country's territory.
