Two more cases of monkeypox were confirmed in the laboratory of the National Public Health Center (NNK) last week, bringing the total number of cases diagnosed in Hungary to 77.

The NNK told MTI on Thursday that the new cases – a 25-year-old man and a 38-year-old man – are in isolation at home, and neither requires hospital treatment.

The regional epidemiological authority is investigating all patients, they added.

It was also reported that the disease starts with swelling of the lymph nodes and non-specific symptoms, which can include fever, chills, muscle aches, back pain, headache and fatigue.

Characteristic rashes may appear on the face, palms, soles of the feet, but may also appear on the oral mucosa, genitalia and rectal area within 1-3 days after the onset of symptoms, they said.

It is urged that anyone who develops a rash should seek medical advice.
