Winter Olympic champion of Hungarian origin

The American skier of Hungarian ancestry, Ted Ligety won the men’s giant slalom event at the Sochi Winter Olympics, winning the second Olympic gold medal of his career. The Hungarian entrant, Norbert Farkas finished 50th.

Ligety won the two-leg event in a combined time of 2 minutes and 45.29 seconds ahead of two Frenchmen, Steve Missillier and Alexis Pinturault.

Ligety is the first American man to win two Winter Olympic titles. His first gold came in the combined event at the 2006 Turin Games.
