A woman has died in a sudden flood caused by a thunderstorm in Tótvázsony, north of Lake Balaton in Western Hungary on Sunday afternoon.
A spokeswoman for the Veszprém County Police Headquarters told the Hungarian news agency MTI that the 66-year-old woman and her husband wanted to clean the bridge pillar at the end of their garden on Sunday afternoon from the sediment of the intermittent watercourse flooded by the rain, but slipped into the water and was swept away by the sudden flood for about seventy meters.
The woman in distress was pulled out of the water by disaster relief workers, but ambulance service staff were not able to resuscitate him.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the case in a general administrative procedure, the spokesman added.
The Sunday afternoon storm caused disruptions in many places across the country. Pictured is the aftermath of a smaller landslide on main road No. 10 in Pilisborosjenő, a village NW of Budapest.
