Hungary welcomes Romania’s plan to co-host UEFA 2020

Romania and Hungary want to jointly host the 2020 or 2024 UEFA European Football Championship. Talks at government level will start soon in both countries.

The Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ) has welcomed the Romanian idea for the two countries to co-host the European soccer championship in 2020 or 2024. President Mircea Sandu of the Romanian Football Association (FRF) announced in Bucharest that he has initiated the first steps for a joint Romanian-Hungarian bid to host the European Championships in 2020 or 2024, with a final decision set to be taken at political level. “We rapidly got in touch with the Hungarian Football Federation, with Sandor Berzi, who has very good relations with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Orbán is willing to start talks at government level, because this will certainly be a political decision,” Mircea Sandu explained. The 2020 UEFA European Football Championship, or Euro 2020 for short, will be the 16th quadrennial top-level European football event.
