Hungarian President János Áder has convened the inaugural session of the National Assembly for May 2, according to a resolution of the Head of State published on the website of the Office of the President of the Republic.
According to the Basic Law (that replaced Hungary’s constitution in 2011), the President of the Republic convenes the inaugural session of Parliament within 30 days of the election of the members of Parliament. The new Parliament will begin its work at 11 a.m. on May 2, the Tuesday decision reads.
Parliament's mandate begins with the inaugural session and lasts until the next Parliament is formed. At the inaugural session, the President of the Republic shall propose the Prime Minister, who shall be elected by a majority, that is more than half of the Members of Parliament.
Also at the inaugural sitting, the Speaker is elected by secret ballot, while the Deputy Speakers and the Notaries are elected by open ballot.
