The Hungarian government has postponed the national census originally planned for 2021 by one year by amending the government decree on additional protection measures to be applied in times of emergency.
According to the the Hungarian Gazette published Friday night, the census will have to take place in 2022. Data collection will be carried out between October 1 and November 20, 2022, based on the situation on October 1.
The data preparation and data processing will last until November 28, 2023.
According to the original plans, the 2021 census would have begun on May 1 and lasted until June 28, but it could have been done online as well. Households would have received a census letter from the Central Statistical Office (CSO) in the last days of April, with a different access code for each address to make it possible to fill in the questionnaire online.
The census is a ten-yearly survey of the entire population, in which everyone is required to participate.
