Ericsson Hungary Ltd. has developed a new 5G-based location service, the development has received more than HUF 497 million in funding from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund (NFKI), the company told MTI.
According to the information, the project aimed to develop new location services related to 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT).
The project involves the development of positioning software capable of determining the position of a significantly larger number of devices than is currently possible, with the ability to determine this position to an accuracy of meters and even centimeters in some cases – all in a wide range of physical conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
The project was carried out by Ericsson Hungary Ltd. at its headquarters in Budapest and the total duration of the project was 42 months.
The grant was awarded for the development of Ericsson's Mobile Positioning System (MPS). The responsibility for product development was transferred to Ericsson Hungary, creating new R&D jobs in the country.
The developments are designed for Ericsson's global product offering and could become part of a network anywhere in the world in the coming years as 5G technology spreads. They will enable Ericsson's R&D department in Hungary and its Hungarian experts to play a significant role in global 5G technology development and strengthen Ericsson's position among the world's major R&D departments.
