The prototype of B+N Referencia Plc's self-developed UV-C disinfection robot, which also uses artificial intelligence (AI), has been completed; after the necessary tests, production can start this year, and foreign companies are already interested in the development, the facility management and research and development company told MTI.
According to the statement, the new robot can move its UV-C emitter to irradiate the surface to be cleaned from several points and it follows a predefined path on a pre-recorded map of the room. It uses an artificial intelligence algorithm to avoid obstacles, and then uses a three-dimensional model to calculate the disinfectant dose and radiation levels, providing visual feedback to the operator and technicians.
Planning for the project began in summer 2019, with actual work starting in 2020 and finishing in May this year, with a team of 16 engineers.
The company won more than HUF 216 million in funding from the National Research, Development and Innovation Office, with B+N Reference Plc. also making a significant contribution, the report said.
The production of additional robots is planned for the fourth quarter of 2023 and it will play a role in the company's own hygiene services where the aim is to further increase the efficiency of cleaning services.
They added that, in the first instance, the robots could play an important role in hospitals, for example, where their use could significantly reduce the risk of infection.
