Hungary's top-ranked tennis player, Márton Fucsovics has made it to the third round in the men's singles of the Australian Open in Melbourne by beating No. 17 seed Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland in five sets: 7:5, 6:1, 4:6, 2:6, 7:6 (11-9).
Fucsovics (No. 55 in the world rankings) won the closely contested first set against the Olympic champion and three-times Grand Slam winner Swiss player. What is more, the Hungarian took a quick 4-0 lead in the second set and went on to win it 6-1, taking a 2-0 lead after just 33 minutes.
However, world No. 18. Wawrinka did not give up. He began the third set by breaking the Hungarin's serve and taking the set with that advantage. The fourth set looked like a replica of the second but this time in Wawrinka's favor, bringing the match to a score of two sets all after almost three hours of playtime.
In the decisive set, Fucsovics took a 5-3 lead but Wawrinka came back to force a tie-break. In that, the Swiss player was 9-6 up but Fucsovics produced a spectacular comeback, saving three match points, to win the match after three hours and 59 minutes of playtime.
His opponent in the the third round will be world No. 14. Canadian Milos Raonic.
