The No. 2 seed pair of Tímea Babos of Hungary and Kristina Mladenovic of France defended their women's doubles title of the French Open tennis Grand Slam tournament this Sunday in Paris.
In this year's final, they defeated American Desirae Krawczyk and Chilean Alexa Guarachi 6-4, 7-5 in one hour and 33 minutes. Tímea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic now have four Grand Slam titles together, two Roland Garros and two Australian Open (2018 and 2020) victories and they are the first back-to-back women's doubles champions in Paris since Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual won the title in 2008 and 2009.
The top Hungarian female tennis player still believes their disqualification from the US Open, where they were the top seed pair, for an alleged violation of the rules by Mladenovic was unfair.
“So, I'm really, really happy after US Open to take the title here. It's somehow very, very special. I always say it's special, but this, it's different. It's like a weird feeling. It's even hard to describe. I think we need again a little bit of time to really understand, like, what happened and I guess we're going to have time again as we don't have tournaments. So voila! It's a good way to finish, I guess,” Tímea Babos said at the press briefing following the women's doubles final.
