Hungarian swimmers have won five gold medals at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, South Korea. Katinka Hosszú continued to rule women’s individual medley by winning both the 200- and 400-meter individual events, however, the performance of Kristóf Milák caused the biggest sensation. The 19-year-old swimmer broke the world record set by the legendary Michael Phelps and won the men’s 200-meter butterfly race. Boglárka Kapás, Hungary’s Olympic 800-meter freestyle bronze medalist finished first in the women’s 200-meter butterfly event. Three-time Olympic champion Hosszú won her 8th and 9th world title in the long-course pool, and the ‘Iron Lady’ entered her name in the annals of international swimming history by becoming the first female swimmer to win the same competition discipline five times by coming first in the 400-meter individual medley. Hungary also won a gold medal in open-water swimming as Kristóf Rasovszky crossed the finish line first in the men’s 5-kilometer race.
