The Hungarian national football (soccer) team lost 0-3 to Portugal in the opening match of Group F at the European Championship at the Puskás Arena in Budapest this Tuesday.
As expected Portugal - with superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting line-up - dominated the first half with the Hungarian side mostly defending, rarely being able to get close to the Portuguese goal.
After the break, the Hungarian team tried harder but it was the Portuguese who created scoring chances and Hungarian goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi, the best of the Hungarian team at the match, had to show his skills several times to keep his goal intact.
However, it was not until the 84th minute that Portugal took the lead: a shot by defender Raphaël Guerreiro deflected off Hungarian defender Willi Orban's leg into the right corner of the Hungarian goal, wrongfooting the Hungarian keeper.
Willi Orban was again a protagonist a minute later when brought down Portuguese striker Rafa Silva within the box and Cristiano Ronaldo scored from the subsequent penalty. Then, in extra time, the Portuguese ace scored his second goal of the match after a nice solo effort.
The Italian coach of the Hungarian national team, Marco Rossi, said he was disappointed with the result, as he did not think there was a three-goal difference between the teams. "We can't start crying, we have two more games, we have to fight on the pitch," he said.
