Alteo and Shell are launching a joint nationwide residential used cooking oil collection program in Hungary.
According to a press release sent to the state news MTI on Monday, the cooperation between energy service provider and trader Alteo, Shell Hungary Zrt. and Biotrans Ltd. is a good example of the practical implementation of the circular economy. Used cooking oil can already be dropped off at 44 of Shell's 193 filling stations in Hungary, and by the end of the year, 120 Shell petrol stations will be able to dispose of used cooking oil in Alteo's 240-litre plastic collection containers.
The full containers will be taken to Alteo's partner Biotrans Ltd. where the collected used oil will be transferred to larger containers. After the sedimentation process, it is transported to biofuel plants where it is used to produce biodiesel. This is then added by fuel retailers to vehicle fuels in the way and in the proportions required by law, in order to reduce emissions from transport.
“The recycling scheme helps to protect living water and soil because the cooking oil converted into biodiesel does not end up in the sewage system or in the digestion pit. As a result of Shell Hungary's decision, Alteo will be able to extend the joint work with Biotrans Ltd. that started last December and make the CseppetSem! [Not a Single Drop!] program, which is now available in more than 900 municipalities, more easily accessible to more people," the statement said.
