At 0 o'clock on Sunday, the transmission company Antenna Hungária switched off the digital radio broadcasting implemented in Hungary with the so-called DAB+ technology.
The reason for this is that the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) did not extend the contract with the state broadcaster, therefore it expired on Saturday, September 5, 2020.
NMHH argued that there was no actual market and listener demand for digital radio in Hungary.
Observers note that in one night, Hungary jumped back decades in time.
Tests with to digital radio began in Hungary in 1995: initially DAB, and since 2009 a more advanced technology, digital radio broadcasting in DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting +) format.
