World Telecom Day

In Hungary, 71% of households have a mobile broadband connection, the use of which has spread extremely quickly, the country's Central Statistical Office (KSH) reports.

World Telecommunication Day has been celebrated annually on May 17 since 1969. The date marks the anniversary of the founding of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) on this day in 1865, when the first International Telegraph Convention was signed in Paris. In 1973, the event was formally instituted at the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in Malaga-Torremolinos, Spain.

Eurostat figures indicate that in the age of group of 16-74 years, 61% of Hungarians used the Internet to make video calls (EU average: 52%); 60% looked for health information (EU: 55%); 47% managed his or her finances (EU: 58%); 15% looked for jobs (EU: 17%) and 6% attended online courses (EU: 10%).

Cloud services are becoming more and more popular, 32% of 16-74-year-olds in Hungary and 34% in the EU have stored documents, pictures, videos and other files on the Internet.
