The number of nights spent by domestic guests at commercial accommodation establishments (hotels, boarding houses, camping sites, bungalow complexes and community hostels) in Hungary increased – mainly due to the low base caused by the introduction of pandemic restrictions – more than two-and-a-half-fold in November 2021 compared to the same month of 2020. However, it was 36% below the November 2019 figure, preceding the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Central Statistical Office reported this Thursday.
In November 2021, compared to same month of previous year:
The number of domestic tourist arrivals grew three-fold and that of tourism nights over two-and-a-half-fold. The former was 292,000 and the latter 644 ,000. 78% of the nights were spent at hotels, their number rising three-fold compared to a year earlier. There were over one and a half times as many tourism nights at boarding houses and community hostels and more than twice as many at bungalow complexes and camping sites compared to November last year. The two most popular tourism regions, having about the same share, were Lake Balaton and the Budapest–Central Danube Region, with nearly one-fifth of domestic tourism nights registered in both regions.
The number of international tourist arrivals at accommodation establishments rose eleven-fold, to 229,000, and that of international tourism nights eight-fold, to a total 622,000. 88% of tourism nights were spent at hotels, which was an eight-and-a-half-fold growth compared to November 2020. The most popular tourism region was the Budapest–Central Danube Region, where two-thirds of international tourism nights were registered.
In November 2021:
1,917 commercial accommodation establishments, including 733 hotels and 777 boarding houses, were open for part of or all over the month.
Domestic guests accounted for 51% of all tourism nights.
In January–November 2021 compared to same period of previous year:
