Aldi Hungary has launched its second electric truck, which will serve stores in downtown Budapest with zero local emissions, the discount supermarket chain informed MTI on Friday.
The statement highlighted that they have expanded their fleet with a Scania three-axle, 27-ton special refrigerated box truck.
The new truck is powered not only by batteries, but also by a 230-kilowatt electric motor for cooling the cargo area. The vehicle is powered by electricity from a renewable source, so charging is emission-free.
Bernhard Haider, national managing director of Aldi Hungary Food Bt., said in a statement that the new truck will replace a diesel-powered vehicle that uses 1,800 liters of gas oil per month.
He added that the chain's first e-truck, which entered service in 2021, has covered more than 71,000 kilometers and delivered goods to their stores 2,800 times.
Aldi Magyarország opened its first store in Hungary in 2008, currently has 167 stores and employs more than 6,000 people.
According to publicly available company data, the chain had net sales of HUF 417.1 billion in 2022, up from HUF 315.2 billion in the previous year, and a profit after tax of HUF 5.97 billion, up from HUF 8.50 billion in 2021.
