As part of the HUF six billion development by the French engineering concern, modern machines were purchased, which can increase the production capacity by 40%. According to a government decision, 20% of the development amount is covered by Hungarian taxpayers.
Alstom told MTI on Wednesday that the investment amount will be used to modernize its machinery, transform its production processes and introduce new production methods. As part of the Mátranovák 2030 development plan, which started in 2022, a modern container office and meeting room have been installed so far, and a logistics hall will be built by 2025, they wrote.
The factory, which employs 720 people, also operates its own welding school to ensure its own supply of specialists, they added. The production of bogie frames for metro and railway trains began almost 40 years ago at the Mátranovák plant, NE Hungary. Their products can now be found throughout Europe in conventional, high-speed and suburban trains, locomotives and double-decker wagons. According to the company, bogie frames for vehicles manufactured for MÁV Hungarian Railways, the suburban train company MÁV-HÉV and the Budapest Transport Company BKV will also be manufactured here.
Alstom has been present in Hungary for more than 20 years, half of the Budapest metro trains were manufactured by the company, and they also participated in the modernization of the train fleet of the railway company MÁV-Start.
According to public company data, Alstom’s Hungarian subsidiary, Alstom Hungary Ltd.., generated sales of almost EUR 36 million euros in 2021 and more than EUR 40 million in 2022, mainly from foreign sales, with profits falling from EUR 1.76 million euros to EUR 864,000 in the same period.
