The last month of the summer was characterized by increasing passenger numbers and stable cargo traffic at the Hungarian capital's Ferenc Liszt International Airport. The gateway handled 702,524 passengers in August, which constitutes a 78% growth from the same period of 2020.
Thus, a total of 1,507,079 passengers used the airport during the three summer months, which is a more than 92% increase from last summer. Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, August generated the highest passenger numbers at Ferenc Liszt International Airport.
The growth in passenger traffic is apparent in the daily passenger figures as well; while in the first third of the year, the number of passengers per day at Budapest Airport was 2,000 on average, this number rose to 23 000 in August. With nearly 80% of the destinations that were available in August 2019 already restored, travelers can now choose from 106 routes, which could climb to 120 in the coming months.
Cargo traffic in August remained stable, with Budapest Airport handling 15,697 tons of air cargo, an increase of 58% compared to the same period last year.
