Rail Cargo Hungaria (RCH) has launched export shipments of Hungarian grain to Africa, with 14,000 tons of grain transported by rail to the port of Rijeka since the end of the harvest in August, mainly destined for Egypt and Tunisia, RCH told MTI on Tuesday.
According to the information, in cooperation with the Croatian state railway company (H® Cargo), RCH has so far transported 13 trains of mainly wheat and barley from Miskolc to ships waiting at the Adriatic docks.
It was pointed out that the contract is for doubling the current volume by the end of the year, and that in addition to the rail transport of Hungarian grain exports, the transport of Ukrainian transit grain is also being negotiated.
In a statement, RCH stressed that since the beginning of August, demand for rail transport of grain has increased significantly due to this year's high wheat and barley yields in Hungary and the expected excellent maize harvest. The company is prepared to transport more than 1 million tons of Hungarian grain for export this year. According to RCH, its efficient rail logistics solutions will give Hungarian grain an advantage in the fierce price competition generated by Ukrainian grain on foreign markets.
