The national bus service provider Volánbusz expects to purchase 20 new electric buses next year as a continuation of the Green Bus program in six smaller towns, the company told MTI on Wednesday.
It was recalled that HUMDA Hungarian Mobility Development Agency Plc. is continuing its Green Bus program aimed at renewing public transport and reducing emissions in order to achieve the country's carbon neutrality target for 2050, opening up the possibility of electrifying the local fleet to municipalities with less than 25,000 inhabitants.
Hajdúszoboszló, 2 in Komárom, 6 in Komló, 5 in Tata and 3 in Várpalota, as soon as the necessary funds are available. The additional 20 e-buses will reduce the environmental impact by more than 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide, the company said in a statement.
In the Green Bus Program, coordinated by HUMDA, Volánbusz has so far put 100 electric buses into service in the capital's catchment area, as well as in the local transport areas of Székesfehérvár, Zalaegerszeg, Győr, Eger, Szolnok and Szeged. Volánbusz's electric fleet will remove around 5,500 tons of carbon dioxide from the air of the municipalities concerned every year, which is equivalent to the annual emissions of 2,000 passenger cars, the company said.
