Passenger and Air Cargo Developments in Budapest

In 2022, the expansion of BUD Cargo City, which was opened three and a half years ago and features a 32,000 square metre cargo handling and forwarder building and its own apron, began. In addition, Budapest Airport, the international airport of the Hungarian capital, is continuing to develop its passenger areas.

We have won several professional awards this year: we have been voted the best airport in Europe by ACI for passenger reviews among airports with 15-25 million passengers; we have been voted the best airport in the region for the 10th time by Skytrax, which has raised our rating from three to four stars after a 3-day audit of 500 performance indicators."

In 2022, the expansion of BUD Cargo City, which was opened three and a half years ago and has a 32,000 sqm Cargo Handling and Forwarder building and its own apron, began, with an additional 6,500 sqm of warehouses, 1,500 sqm of offices and additional service space. Two new aircraft hangars have also been added to the complex.

As for the future, there is no doubt that not only the high level of service currently provided, but also the further growth of tourism in Hungary cannot be maintained without further capacity expansion.

Both the owners and the management are committed to further investment, especially in two upcoming priority projects. One of these is the reopening and expansion of Terminal 1. "The plans are ready, and we are continuing the approval process with the relevant authorities to implement them," he said.

The other is the construction of Terminal 3 and related facilities, where a dedicated team is currently working on preparing for the international design competition, phasing and preliminary studies.
