The seven-kilometer long Zselic narrow gauge railway in south-central Hungary has begun operation this week-end. It is one of several such railways that has re-started service after most of the restrictions introduced due to the Covid-19 situation were lifted in the countryside earlier this month.
Built in 1901, the railway line makes it possible to travel between the hills of Zselic – a hilly region in southern Somogy and northwestern Baranya County, 160 kilometers south of Budapest – on weekends and public holidays. To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, a limited number of passengers can travel on this route with pre-registration, wearing a face mask and in open wagons only.
