An exhibition showcasing the relationship between Pablo Picasso and Hungarian visual artists will open on June 20 at the Móra Ferenc Museum in Szeged, Director Ottó Fogas has announced.
At a press conference about the exhibition, the curator explained that the exhibition, which opens on Museum Night, will feature not only works by Pablo Picasso but also works by Hungarian artists with whom he collaborated, maintained friendships, and who influenced him, MTI reports.
The exhibition also aims to introduce visitors to the Spanish artist’s life and career. To this end, in addition to immersive tools and projections, reproductions will also be used; among other pieces, a life-size replica of Guernica will be featured in the exhibition, the expert noted.
The exhibition titled ‘My Dear Friend, Picasso!’ will feature nearly thirty original works by the Spanish artist, including nine ceramics. The artworks are coming to Szeged from public collections in Hungary, private collectors, and abroad, the director stated.
The primary goal of the exhibition, which will run until the end of the year, is to showcase the close relationship Pablo Picasso had with Hungarian visual artists. Picasso met them during various periods, primarily in Paris. The Spanish artist cultivated friendships with them, worked alongside them, and many of them also influenced him, the curator emphasized.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to view works by nearly forty Hungarian painters and graphic artists.
Among others, the exhibition features works by Béla Czóbel, Vilmos Aba-Novák, Tivadar Csontváry Kosztka, Ödön Márffy, and Lajos Tihanyi, as well as Lajos Szalay, whom Picasso called the greatest graphic artist of the 20th century.
