The Hungarian government wishes to put some of the burden of handling the coronavirus pandemic by levying special taxes on banks and retail chains. The latter mainly concerns the multinational retail chains present in Hungary as the Hungarian store chains were made exempt from this tax by the government, according to a new study by Deloitte in Hungary.
According to the government's plans, companies with over HUF 500 million annual net sales revenue will pay HUF 36 billion a year in this tax, and this amount will be used in the fund created for the control of the coronavirus epidemic. Multinational chains with over HUF 100 billion annual net sales revenue will take much of the burden.
