The CE Glass Group has expanded its plant in Szeged, SE Hungary by 5,400 square meters in two phases and almost doubled its capacity in the production of safety glass, the company informed the state news agency MTI.
According to the statement, the glass company with centuries-old family roots, formerly known as Szilánk (‘Splinter’), moved to the industrial park on the outskirts of Szeged ten years ago, where it built its new factory as part of a greenfield investment, and the plant area has already doubled since then. However, the explosion in demand for safety glass has made it necessary to expand the factory more than ever before.
The new investment, which started a year ago and was completed in two phases, has increased the plant's floor area by a total of 5,400 square meters, so that it can now continue its glass activities, producing laminated and toughened glass, on more than 35,000 square meters. This has made the company one of the largest production centers in the region.
New heat treatment and laminating lines, machining centers for preparation work and grinding equipment have recently been added to the existing ones, enabling the company to meet the growing demand of the construction industry faster, in larger quantities and on a larger scale.
The statement quotes Gusztáv Varga, the company's founder and CEO, as saying that the aim of the ongoing investments is to ensure that the company can continue to compete internationally and to provide the region with growing jobs through competitiveness.
Thanks to the investment of around HUF two billion, which was largely self-financed and 40% covered by domestic and EU subsidies, CE Glass has not only doubled its capacity to produce safety glass, but also created dozens of new jobs for people living in and around Szeged in the past year, the statement said.
Gusztáv Varga opened his picture framing and glazing workshop in Szeged in 1989 under the name Szilánk, continuing a tradition of more than a century. Over the years, the company has expanded its activities to include wholesale trade, glass processing, insulating glass production and glass machinery manufacturing, and has entered the international market. The new production and logistics center of CE Glass, located in Szatymaz, on the outskirts of Szeged, was inaugurated in 2012.
