The latest "State of the Internet Report" says Hungary is among the top countries in the world regarding the average connection speed, the proportion of broadband connections and penetration from mobile networks, as well.
Looking at broadband conncectivity, in Hungary, 91% of such Internet access is above two Mb/sec (same as the figures for Germany and the Netherlands), recording a 16% increase from the previous year. The global average is 62%.
In the average speed of connection, South Korea (14.4 Mb/s) is far the best with Hungary (5.1 Mb/s) in the top 15 in the world and in the top 10 in Europe.
Regarding worldwide Internet traffic from mobile networks, Italy (25%) is far ahead of the rest of the world with Hungary (3.4%) listed on 8th place globally.
In the first quarter of 2011, analysis of the top 100 fastest cities around the world, based on average connection speeds, shows that cities in Asia dominate the list, including 61 cities in Japan, five cities in South Korea, and Hong Kong. Lyse, Norway is the fastest city in Europe ( No.33), while Riverside, California is the fastest U.S. city (No. 39).
The "State of the Internet" report is published by by Akamai Technologies four times a year. This report includes data gathered across Akamai's global server network about attack traffic, average & maximum connection speeds, Internet penetration and broadband adoption, and mobile usage, as well as trends seen in this data over time.
