Mercedes' new factory in Kecskemét will also start serial production early next year, doubling the company's production capacity in Hungary, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced in Stuttgart on Tuesday.
The minister said that Mercedes decided to build a factory in Hungary about a decade and a half ago, and now a new development of similar magnitude to that of that time is underway in Kecskemét, where a new factory is being built.
"This will double Mercedes' production capacity in Hungary, so that 400,000 cars will roll off the production lines in Kecskemét every year after the new Mercedes factory in Kecskemét starts series production early next year," he said.
The minister stressed that Mercedes will bring the production of two model ranges based on the new platform to Hungary, making Kecskemét an important stronghold of the German company's electromobility strategy.
