The world’s largest car engine producer, the Hungary-based plant of German carmaker Audi, closed a great year in 2014. It produced the biggest number of engines to date and – as a result of the start of the serious production of Audi TT and Audi TT Roadster models – the number of cars rolling out of the factory was the triple of the 2013 figure. As a result of new investments and rising demand, headcount has grown further at the plant in the northwestern town of Gyõr.
In the past business year, Audi manufactured 1,476,078 four-cylinder Otto and diesel engines and 2,853 five-cylinder Otto engines. It also produced 452,770 six-cylinder engines, and 42,033 eight-cylinder, ten-cylinder and 12-cylinder power sources in the Gyõr plant. The total number of engines producer at the facility reached 1,973,734 – a new record.
Audi Hungária manufactured six different types of Otto engines and four types of diesel engines in 216 variations, with output between 63 kW (86 HP) and 419 kW (570 HP). The plant’s 6,000-strong staff churns out more out 8,800 engines a day. The Gyõr plant supplies its produce to more than 32 vehicle manufacturing plants of the Volkswagen concern worldwide.
As for vehicle production, Audi Hungária manufactured 135,232 cars last year: 7,532 second-generation Audi TT Coupés, 2,311 second-generation Audi TT Roadsters, 7,431 third-generation Audi TT Coupés, 380 third-generation Audi TT Roadsters, 98,170 A3 Limousines and 19,408 A3 Cabriolet models.
The highlight of last year was the launch of the serial production of third-generation Audi TT Coupé and TT Roadster models. Both of them are made in Hungary from the first screw to the last welding.
