More than a third of Internet users in Hungary would order online food because of the corona virus, which could double the number of people who shop online for their household, according to an online survey conducted by Reacty Digital between March 12 and 15, 2020.
More than half of the adult population who regularly surf the Internet fear that the coronavirus will spread significantly in Hungary. All respondents have heard about the virus's appearance in Hungary, three quarters are actively informed about the domestic and international situation, while one quarter have only learned about the important news. The proportion of women and people living in the Central Hungarian region is higher among those actively informing themselves.
Over the past year, 17% of respondents have bought grocery online at least once. Among them, the proportion of those under the age of 30 years is above average. One third of the latter group say they might buy food online because of the coronavirus, and one tenth say they are certain to do so. Those who feel they will buy groceries online in the next month are most likely to choose Tesco (51%), Auchan (30%) and Spar (23%). Kifli.hu, a newcomer to the domestic market, was marked by 7% of the respondents, the latter site being more popular among men and those under 40.
