370 films from 30 countries are screened this week at the 15th Kecskemét Animation Film Festival, which runs until Sunday.
The festival coincides with the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Kecskemét animation studio, which is celebrated with a screening of ten thematic selections and an exhibition of the most memorable moments of the past 50 years in front of the Hírös Agóra.
On Wednesday, 'Fritzi - a revolutionary tale', set at the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall, was screened at the Otthon cinema as part of the international competition program.
On Thursday, Kecskemétfilm's animated films inspired by Hungarian literary works are screened under the title 'Writers in the cinema'. In the Mirror Room of the Youth Home, at 9 and 11 a.m., children can enjoy a free animation play house, but registration is required.
In the afternoon, István Orosz, graphic artist and animation film director, opens an exhibition in the Bozsó Collection, and the Kaláka group will perform in the main square. György Kovásznai's cultic Foam Baths will be on display in the courtyard of the Hungarian Naive Artists' Collection.
On Friday morning, the best of contemporary Chinese animation will be screened at the Hírös Agora, while the Belgian competition film The Marona's Wonderful Adventures will be shown at the Otthon cinema at noon. In parallel, three book launches will be held in the Agora. Barnabás Takács will give a lecture on Artificial Intelligence and Film, and at 18:00 hours, the competition screening of the Oscar- and BAFTA-nominated film Wolfwalkers by directors Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart will take place at the Otthon cinema.
On Saturday, Home Cinema will screen the latest animation The Goons and Whatever, followed by the TV film Family Legends. Both screenings will be followed by an audience meeting. In the evening, the winning films of this year's festival will be screened in the Hírös Agora, and on Sunday evening they will also be shown at the Otthon cinema.
During the festival, episodes of the Hungarian Folktales series will be shown on LED screens in the town square. Participation in the festival is free of charge.
