A lively event, a unique ‘soirée musicale’ has been held recently at the Dutch Ambassador’s residence in Budapest in the honor of the launch of the Foundation Magyar Nóta, the Dutch initiative to support and preserve Hungarian music.

Ambassador Gajus Scheltema invited several guests for the event where the Foundation and its objectives were presented and two ensembles featuring renowned Hungarian musicians performed live.

The primary objective of the ‘Magyar Nóta Foundation’ – a Dutch initiative – is to preserve the unique heritage of traditional Hungarian music (‘magyar nóta’). The genre has been very popular in the Netherlands, and many Dutch people recognize the melodies when they hear them. Presently, this music is in danger of fading away because Hungarian musicians are no longer employed to perform there.
