Edina Hangya has been officially appointed Honorary Consul of the Republic of Malta to Hungary, following the issuance of the Exequatur by the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The document was formally presented by Malta’s non-resident Ambassador accredited to Hungary, Roberto Buontempo, at a ceremonial event held at Corinthia Budapest.
The newly appointed Honorary Consul has been representing the Malta Tourism Authority in Hungary for over 25 years, playing a significant role in the destination’s continued success and growth on the Hungarian market. Supported by expanding air connectivity and targeted promotional activity, travel demand has steadily increased, with nearly 80,000 Hungarian visitors traveling to Malta in 2025.
The Honorary Consul will carry out these duties in parallel with her ongoing role at the Malta Tourism Authority, with the aim of further strengthening relations between Malta and Hungary, both in tourism and across additional areas of cooperation.
She succeeds András Sugár, who served as Honorary Consul of Malta to Hungary for over 17 years before resigning from the position. His long standing contribution to Maltese-Hungarian relations is gratefully acknowledged.
