At the initiative of Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, the prime ministers of the Visegrád Four (V4) countries held a special working meeting at the Straka Academy in Prague this Wednesday morning with the main focus on the current situation regarding the Covid 19 coronavirus in Europe. The PMs were set to “find solutions and tighten cooperation” regarding the spreading of coronavirus epidemic in Europe. Other items on the agenda for the meeting, hosted by Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš on behalf of the current Czech Presidency of the V4, were the situation in Turkey, migration and the EU’s multiannual financial framework. Slovakia was represented there by PM Peter Pellegrini, and Hungary by PM Viktor Orbán.
The latter emphasized that it was a good decision to convene the meeting because the virus had entered the territory of the V4, it had arrived in Central European reality. “We knew that this was going to happen sooner or later,” Orbán added. He said while in Hungary no infection has been detected yet, “we cannot delude ourselves into believing that Hungary will be left out of this… We, too, must prepare for the threat of actual infection, that the virus will also appear in places where it is not present, yet.”
