Consumer prices in Hungary in April were on average 24.0% higher than a year earlier. Over the past year, household energy and food prices rose the most, MTI reported on Wednesday based on data from the country’s Central Statistical Office (KSH).
Compared to April last year, food prices rose by 37.9%, with dairy products (63.5%), butter and butter cream (62.1%), and confectionery flour products (61, 9%), bread (61.6%), eggs (51.0%), dry pasta (47.6%), pastry products (46.7%), cheese (45.4%) and milk (43.2%). Within the product group, flour (8.8%) and edible oil (3.4%) increased the least.
Household energy rose by 41.8%, including 59.4% for piped gas, 54.4% for firewood, 46.9% for cylinder gas and 27.3% for electricity.
Prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco increased by an average of 20.5%, including spirits by 27.5%.
The price of durable consumer goods increased by 9.3%, including 18.0% for new cars, 16.1% for kitchen and other furniture, 15.7% for heating and cooking equipment and 15.2% for household furniture.
Motor fuel prices rose by 26.0%.
Charges for services rose by 14.1%, including taxis by 36.2%, domestic holidays by 28.0%, sports and museum admissions by 27.9%, tolls, car rental and parking by 27.6%, vehicle repair and maintenance by 23.4% and home repair and maintenance by 20.0%.
