Consumer Prices 4.3% Higher in Hungary

Consumer prices were 4.3% higher on average in Hungary in September 2025 than a year earlier. Compared to August, prices were unchanged on average, according to the country's Central Statistical Office.

Food prices rose 4.7%, but increased just 3.0% excluding the price of eating out. The price of eggs jumped 18.2% and cooking oil prices climbed 8.4%, but the price of flour dropped 12.0%, dairy products prices fell 8.4% and pork was 4.5% cheaper.

Household energy prices rose 10.6% as piped gas prices climbed 23.4% and electricity prices increased 2.3%.

Consumer durable prices rose 2.5%.

Motor fuel prices edged down 0.3%.

Prices of spirits and tobacco products increased 7.1% and clothing prices rose 2.4%. Service prices were up 5.9%.

Core inflation, which excludes volatile fuel and food prices, was 3.9%.

The CPI calculated with a basket of goods and services used by pensioners was 4.3%.

In a month-on-month comparison, consumer prices were flat. Food prices, excluding the price of eating out, fell 0.5%. Service prices dropped 0.4%, household energy declined 0.1% and motor fuel prices rose 0.4%.
