Amid rising trading volume, the Budapest Stock Exchange (BSE) stock index fell this week; on Friday, the BUX closed at 142,467.45 points, down 0.42 points from the previous week. Weekly trading volume was HUF 104.7 billion, up from HUF 103.0 billion the previous week; leading stocks weakened, with the exception of Mol.
On Monday, the BUX closed at a historic high amid below-average trading volume. Significant profit-taking began in OTP shares, but the bank’s stock eventually corrected back to its closing price from the previous Friday, pulling the stock market into positive territory.
On Tuesday, the domestic stock index fell amid unfavorable international sentiment, with leading stocks weakening compared to the previous day’s close. The decline may also have been driven by the fact that several leading stocks had risen significantly in recent weeks, making them attractive targets for selling.
On Wednesday, the BUX also fell, primarily due to the unfavorable international sentiment. Trading volume on the BSE was above average, with brisk trading; leading stocks, with the exception of Mol, fell compared to the previous day’s close.
On Thursday, trading took place in a positive mood on both European and U.S. markets; on the Hungarian market, leading stocks posted mixed results, with OTP and Mol driving the BUX higher.
Among the leading stocks this week, Mol gained strength, with its share price rising 4.25%; on Friday, the stock closed at HUF 4,076, with weekly trading volume exceeding HUF 13.3 billion.
OTP’s share price fell 2.39% this week; its closing price on Friday was HUF 45,800, with weekly trading volume totaling more than HUF 73.8 billion.
Richter’s share price fell 0.82% during the week, closing at HUF 12,090 on Friday, with weekly trading volume exceeding HUF 9.3 billion.
Magyar Telekom’s share price weakened by 0.75% this week; the stock closed at HUF 2,650 on Friday, with weekly trading volume exceeding HUF 3.9 billion.
The BUMIX index of small- and mid-cap stocks fell 1.10% or 103.31 points, closing the week at 9,278.25 points.
