Budapest-based Eötvös Loránd University is using HUF 2.8 billion of EU funding to develop, modernize and renovate five of its training schools in Budapest and one in Szombathely, the university's rector, László Borhy announced at the opening ceremony of the project held on Tuesday in the hall of the ELTE Bólyai János Practice Primary School and High School in Szombathely.
The rector said that thanks to the grant, the infrastructure of six ELTE training schools can be renewed and equipment can be purchased to support teacher training.
The training schools are "very important pillars" of Eötvös Lóránd University and are proud of their success, as they are all ranked highly in national rankings and their students are hard-working, well-prepared children, he said.
He added that ELTE Bólyai János Practice Primary School and Secondary School is one of the most sought-after secondary schools in the region, ranked among the top 20 secondary schools in Hungary, and was ranked 15th in a 2022 national ranking of secondary schools, and fourth among the practical schools.
He stressed that teacher training in Szombathely is of great importance to the university, which is why the Berzsenyi Dániel Teacher Training Center was ‘revived’ and established, and efforts were made to improve the conditions for teacher training.
The number of pupils at the Bólyai school has increased from 600 to 1,000 as a result of the development and progress of recent years, so in order to maintain the school's quality, it has become essential to improve the infrastructure and equipment.
