According to a survey by Profession.hu, the average time spent looking for a job in Hungary has decreased significantly: while it took more than five months to fill a new position in the first quarter of 2025, the average this year is three months and 22 days, the job portal informed MTI on Monday.
The representative online survey examining job-seeking attitudes, conducted regularly by Profession.hu, included 1,000 people from the Hungarian population aged 18–65 years in the first quarter of 2026.
The report highlighted that employee activity has increased: 40% of active job seekers spend several hours a week applying for jobs, while 10 percentage points more people (61%) began looking for work while unemployed compared to last year.
Retention remains the norm in higher-level positions, while there is greater turnover in roles with higher turnover rates, and this duality has resulted in a more efficient matching of supply and demand, which may contribute to a reduction in the average job search time, the press release quoted Nikoleta Szigeti, Business Unit Manager at Profession Services, as saying.
The most important factors in employees’ decisions are salary and benefits (84%), the location of the workplace (68%), and a work schedule that suits them (58%). The survey revealed that 13% of employees are currently actively seeking a new position, and one in five (21%) changed jobs in the past year, while the proportion of passive job seekers is approximately 33%.
