According to data released by the National Center for Public Health (NNK) on Friday, air quality has been classified as hazardous not only in Putnok and Sajószentpéter, but also in Kazincbarcika - all in NE Hungary.
Miskolc (in the northeast), Salgótarján (in the north), Várpalota (in the west) and Tököl (just west of Budapest) have unhealthy air quality. In a further fourteen municipalities, including Budapest, air quality has been classified as poor due to particulate matter.
The air quality index system has four categories: acceptable, substandard, unhealthy and hazardous.
The NNK has previously warned that children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with chronic respiratory or cardiovascular diseases should avoid the outdoors if air quality is hazardous. At the same time, it was noted that it is important to remember to ventilate regularly and quickly during the holidays.
