The National Center for Public Health (NNK) has confirmed monkeypox infection in another person, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 79 in Hungary, the NNK told the state news agency MTI on Thursday.
The infected man, a 43-year-old man, is isolated at home and does not require hospital treatment. An epidemiological investigation has been initiated by the competent epidemiological authority in the area, they said.
They added that since October 13, the monkeypox vaccine has been available to people at risk and can be taken at several health facilities in the country.
The disease starts with general, non-specific symptoms – fever, chills, muscle aches, back pain, headache, fatigue – and swelling of the lymph nodes, followed by a rash 1-3 days after the initial symptoms.
“Rashes often occur first on the face, then on the palms and soles, but can also appear on the mucous membranes of the mouth, genitals and around the rectum," the statement said. The NNK urges people to always seek medical advice if they develop a rash.
