Hungary receives 2,560 doses of the vaccine against monkeypox, which is sufficient to vaccinate 1,280 people, the National Public Health Center (NNK) told the state news agency MTI this Tuesday.
The vaccine consists of two doses, which will be administered one month apart. They added that the vaccine, which is available in limited quantities, will be offered to those in the most vulnerable risk group.
MTI was also informed that the details of the exact use of the monkeypox vaccine are currently being discussed between the NNK and the technical college, and that once this is completed, the criteria for vaccination uptake will be defined and vaccination sites will be designated.
According to the NNK, a total of 20 new cases of monkeypox were confirmed in weeks 31 and 32 between August 1 and 14, bringing the total number of cases diagnosed in Hungary to 62. The patients are all men aged between 23 and 50 years, most of them living in Budapest.
“The general condition of the infected persons is good and none of them require hospital treatment; they are isolated in their homes. All patients are under epidemiological investigation by the regional epidemiological authority, which includes contact tracing," the NNK said.
