Ericsson Hungary that supplies telecommunications and IT systems and is also engaged in research and development, will develop the next generation of the cloud-based IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) in the framework of an almost EUR 8.4 million R&D project.
The project will be the cornerstone of cutting-edge telecommunications systems, according to the Hungarian Investment Promostion Agency. The investment to be realized by September 2022 will create 200 new jobs requiring higher education. The Hungarian government subsidizes the project by providing about 20% of the costs.
The Swedish firm Ericsson established a software development center in Hungary in 1991, which was integrated into a single organization with the research laboratory founded in 1996, thus creating the research and development division. One of the most significant results was when Ericsson Hungary and Hungarian Telekom introduced the first 5G network in Hungary in 2017 and the Swedish company also installed 5G mobile technology on the automotive test track in Zalaegerszeg.
In Ericsson's new R&D project, it will develop the next generation of IMS for cloud-based IP Multimedia Subsystems in its Budapest headquarters, which will be the cornerstone of cutting-edge telecommunications systems. IMS controls and facilitates modern voice, video and conference calls and messaging in IP-based packet-switched communications networks.
