According to the Digital Quality of Life (DQL) Index 2021, Hungary ranks 32nd in the world. Compared to last year, Hungary has dropped seven places. Hungary ranks 4th in Eastern Europe and comes behind Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland.
This year, the study covers 90% of the global population and indexes 110 countries by looking at five fundamental pillars of digital life – internet affordability and quality, e-infrastructure, e-security, and e-government.
The key findings related to Hungary are:
• Hungary’s internet quality and e-security are among the top 30 globally, ranking 29th and 28th respectively. Both pillars are 20% better than the global average.
• Hungary ranks 8th in broadband internet speed worldwide. Since the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic, broadband speed has improved by 51%.
• There’s room for improvement in internet affordability – it has decreased by 55% since last year and ranks only 37th. This year, Hungarians have to spend almost 2 hours per month to afford the cheapest broadband internet package, 1h and 33 minutes more than in 2020.
Compared to Poland, Hungary ranks lower in internet affordability, e-security and e-government, however it shows better results in internet quality and e-infrastructure.
