Major General Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, the new Commander of the Hungarian Defence Forces, received his appointment from President János Áder in the Dome Hall of Hungarian Parliament Parliament this Saturday.
On May 26, President Áder relieved General Ferenc Korom, Commander of the Hungarian Defence Forces, from his post. Dr. Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, proposed as the new commander by Minister of Defense Dr. Tibor Benkő, received his official appointment from the head of state this Saturday. The major general's appointment runs from June 3, 2021 to May 31, 2026.
In his speech at the ceremony, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was of the view that Hungarian politics before 2010 had made serious mistakes and failed to fulfil its duty to the country and its soldiers. Conscription had been abolished, but not replaced it with a modern, capable army. Even in such circumstances, a series of military exercises and missionary activities proved that the Hungarian soldier was as good, if not better, than any of his peers, and that he deserved to serve his country in dignified conditions.
The Prime Minister wished the new commander good health and success in his work. He underlined that one of Dr. Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi's main tasks will be to instil the army with a disciplined internal order and to preserve the military spirit, to integrate it into Hungarian society, as well as to win over tens of thousands of young people, to prepare and train them to defend the homeland and to respect the military spirit.
