The Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) "agrees with the main goals outlined in the program of the Tisza party" and wants to ensure Hungarian researchers gain access to European cooperation and funding as a priority, the academy said in a statement on it website. It added that the autonomous and transparent operation of universities was also a key objective.
MTA is initiating talks with the party's leadership and experts, adding that "as the nation's advisory body, it is putting its entire knowledge base at the incoming government's disposal," according to a statement signed by MTA president Tamás Freund, secretary-general László Péter Kollár, and deputy secretary-general Anna Erdei.
The academy of scciences said that it would make all information, surveys and strategic plans available to the new government as needed, and would cooperate in establishing a science policy aligned with the professional opinions of the scientific community and supported by its majority.
"This policy should fulfil academic freedom while integrating the entire Hungarian research sector into European scientific and higher education cooperation, and prioritise scientific research as a key driver of societal, economic, and national cultural development," the statement added.
