The renowned American magazine, National Geographic, has collected has collected the top ten trolley rides in the world, a list on which Budapest tram line No. 2 has been awarded the 7th place. At the same time, it has been found the best in Europe.
The line connects Jászai Mari Square and Közvágóhíd Square, and rides parallel with the river Danube - in the downtown area on the embankment on the Pest side, offering great view of Parliament and the Buda Castle, among other sights.
Tram no. 2 was established shortly after World War II, originally operating between Dimitrov (today Fõvám) Square and Jászai Mari square. The terminal station was moved to Boráros Square in 1973, and in the same year, its shorter sister line, 2A began to transport passengers.
As the National Geographic Top 10 Tolley Rides site puts it, "trams are still very much part of everyday life in Budapest, which has a total of 96 miles (155 kilometers) of tram routes. On the Pest side of the city, the #2 tram follows the curve of the Danube River. This is the best way to see the Parliament building up close and the panorama of Buda Castle across the river. Sit on the side nearest the river for the best views."
